As I was in Charlotte at Bryant Park and Miss Cindy was A NO SHOW I thought I would share another perspective with you. I find it humorous that someone who would not get within a hundred yards of the "speakers platform" to address her supporters would be intimidated by the GoE. It is those on her side of the street who's threats of violence toward The Wall gave birth to the GoE in the first place. Now she will not even step into the arena to speak with those who have come to support her. She is a joke.

It is her supporters, The Black Block, who cover their faces in the fashion of the KKK in an attempt to intimidate while carrying shieds and wearing protective clothing. It is her supporters who wear the face of one of the world's worse mass murderers on their chests.

They call us neo-nazi or fascist when they have obviously never even read the definition of those words. There are many things we could be called but those two terms just don't fit, nor does pro-war. I know of no one that has served in combat and seen it's horror that could be called pro-war. Perhaps they just like the way the words tickle their tongues as they spill from their mouths.

I was at the park sitting on a stone wall minding my own business when a woman dressed in her finest Code pink attire and her pal in some sort of greenish brown getup started hurling insults and taunts at the GoE. There is no question that these women wanted a confrontation but honestly they were much too silly to bother with.

As time grew closer for the speakers to begin Capt. Bailey thought it might be a good idea to post some of our signs behind the "speakers platform" so as to give everyone an opportunity to see both sides of the issue. While it did make for a wonderful sight the local police thought it may not be a great idea and asked us to step back to, figuratively speaking, "our side of the street." It should be known that these instructions were followed by the Eagles immediatly! This all occured while some young man, who needn't quit his day job (assuming he has one), sang about Bush the dictator. All the while I wondered to myself if he realized that if our President were in fact a dictator, his stringy black haired head could well be laying on the ground.

As speakers began there usual cries about everything from, blood for oil, the government bringing down the Twin Towers to the ever popular Bush lied, the one on one "debates" began. It seems that they have all passed moonbat 101 yet some honestly surprised me. I was told that ANYTHING that happened outside our boarders was not our problem or concern and we should just "leave them alone and they will leave us alone." I was told we , Americans, are to blame for 9-11, Aids in Africa and genocide in the Sudan. And on and on. You have all heard all of this before and I'm sure, like me, you are more than just alittle bored with it. They still have no answers to two very simple questions. #1 what did Bush lie about? #2 what will you tell your children if your side of the street is wrong about people who have told you to convert or die? By the way the new retort to question #2 seems to be "that day will never come" God knows I wish I could be as sure as they are.

The speakers? Well some old guy reliving a blotter acid trip from "68 and a self proclaimed communist who honestly could not be heard. Seems the moonbats forgot to get permission to use a PA system and were religated to using what appeared to be a Mr Microphone and a boombox. That coupled with the beautiful sounds of cowbells and chants of " where's Cindy " seemed to make it a bit tough for the sheep to hear the same old lame garbage but I'm sure they will go over it again and again and again...........................

Violence and intimidation? Well there was no violence as has been stated by the Charlotte PD and intimidation, well I guess that is in the eye of the beholder. Yes voices were raised, yes names were called but I can honestly say NO ONE on "our side of the street" was acting in an intimidating manner unless you are placed in fear by someone raising their voice and if that is the case it might be best for you to just stay at home.

And yes even good came from this exercise. I met a set of parents who brought their teenaged son so he could see "democracy in action." Irene, I echo Georges words and would add something to them. You and millions like you are the very reason we served in uniform and were and are willing to sacrifice whtever it takes to insure that America remains free. It is not important that you honor me individually, but it is so important that you live out and support the principles for which this country was founded. Every time I see or meet an American who has lived their life above the law, acheived success, and takes time to honor their family, their flag, and the defenders of freedom, I know that every moment I spent in unifrom was worth it. You make me proud and I am proud to serve beside you, you dont need an invitation, uniform, or membership card, you are an Eagle.

At Bryant Park when the Police requested that the Eagles keep 15 feet between them and the "sheehanites" they said it was to avoid confrontation but I thought it was to help the Eagles avoid contamination from their group. We, the Eagles abided by the request and as a result some of them foolishly ventured close enough to spew their bile. They were quickly, confidently, and considering the circumstances even "courteously" vociferously corrected in their thought process. I was so proud to be an Eagle there with George. Once again what a bunch of whack jobs they are and I can hardly wait for September 15th to join with my friends and fellow Eagles again. Irene hope to see you there!

Was great being with you NJ Eagles at Fort Monmouth, I wish you all could have been with Capt Bailey & the fine group of uncaged Eagles at Bryant Park in Charlotte NC. on July 17. We ruled the park!!. NJ we had free range to go very up close & very personal, I did not need a bull horn, I figured at 15-20 ft we could all be heard, as we spoke as one voice. The cow bells were great, I will soon have one in my little black bag. Cindy pulled a page from the Jane Fonda play book from GOE 1, she mounted her pony and rode out of Dodge, one step in front of a fine group of Americans who only wanted to engage her in spirited dabate at the top of their lungs. I do hope she knows the laws differ from state to state, city to city, & her advance person needs to get out of Never, Never, Land & GROW UP!!. Eagles FYI, The tall skinny lady in the long pink dress {Code Pink} at Bryant Park was the head Cindy lover & She acted like Code Pink was the Law & Order for NC, she soon found out not only were the Eagles legal , {Full Police Permits} we had been briefed by the Police ,.. twice before she arrived , she was shocked to learn her permit did not include duct tape for Eagles mouths. There does not seem to be any adjectives left to discribe this cindy so and so in any more detail. With all the comments above, she has quite well been defined. But there is one point I am still bothered by, and that is the reference to "her son". Cindy had no son.... remember she deserted him and forced him to leave her presence when he was alive and made him go live with his real Dad, who raised him to be patriotic, miilitary volunteer who respected our country and was willing to die for his beliefs. He was a true hero, nothing at all like his so-called mom. All this cindy charater has ever done was to debase the memory of this fine young American with her actions, words, and hate-mongering support to those who would do America harm. She is only using his memory for her own selfish "trippin" agenda, along with his GI life insurance money she managed to grab after his death in Iraq. Remember how she failed to even put a stone on his grave, but instead went out and bought property to emulate herself by trying to "get close" to our President? At least he had the smarts to keep his distance from her, unlike the President of a certain South American country who took her under his wing to smooth her ego. This whole cindy (and I hate to use the term woman as I have more orespect for America's woman than that) thing is all about cindy....seeking to make herself a moonbat hero on the coattails of a true American hero, the guy she pretends to call her son. In America I see no reason on earth why some of the pork carried home in slop buckets by members of Congress cannot be funded to pay the price for their deaths for freedom. In our great nation I think stone can be found that will be a gift to the familys of those who gave all.

I went to the rally in Richmond yesterday. Cindy stayed at this one. She sat in a lawn chair facing a rented U-Haul van of speakers. Then later got up and did her speech. She left shortly afterwards.

I was late, so I thought , wow, I missed the thing. Wrong! They appeared to be late too. I counted their number several times to get a decent estimate because some on-lookers were in there too. All toll there were about "150" counting the late arriving "Pinkos."

Speaking of Code Pink, those guys really do wear the pink don't they. It almost hurts your eyes to look at them, it's so bright. Anyway, I digress.

There were two Eagles/Freep/ etc.. Yup, that's right, two, me and USMCPOP, lol! I took a lot of pictures. Though at times I felt they were trying to prevent this. I did several sequential sweeps so you can clearly tell that there were only about 150 of them. Across the road, but only a about 30 feet or so apart was "USMCPOP" for our side waving his U.S.Flag or rather holding it in a very patient and dignified manner.

Actually the protesters were rather sedate too. Guess that was because there were so few of them, us, and onlookers. There were probably probably about 30-40 onlookers being generous in my estimate. There were so few, I didn't bother to count them. And, of course Channel 12 On Your Side was there.

Police security was awesome. But since they weren't really needed they stood around, directed traffic, let their horses eat grass, and generally had a freebie day.

USMCPOP had his small flag and I had a P.G.R. size. but we weren't really in a situation where we could make any impact, respectfully, that is! I did go up and give a "Yellow Duckie" to a lady about three chairs from Cindy. I wrote on it, "If it walks like a duck, Quacks like a duck, then it's a duck. Then put GOE on its top." I hope this was OK. I didn't make a scene. But, the burlys guarding the whole area are a little forceful. I just politely ask him to take his hands off and told the lady it was only a rubber duckie I brought as a gift for Cindy. I never real;ly expected to actually be able to give it to her. They gave it back to POP while I was taking pictures. Guess they didn't like it.

They were mad because all the politicians they invited didn't show up. Mr. Warner wouldn't see them. He had the receptionist tell them to make an appointment and he would see them on a "Town Hall " date I think it was. Theother three or fourthey invited didn't show up either.

There were a some people who sang, read original poems and such. It was like a little gathering of hipppies in the sixties. But even that was toned down due to their small size.

At one point, I asked a couple people why they weren't willing to openly debate or discuss the issues, them, Code Pink, etc. on one side of the stage, GOE, and like groups on the other. I said I can't speak for the GOE or the other groups; but, I was curious that they didn't demand thios since they felt their cause was a just one!

Here I quote:

"Because we have had bad experiences with GOE. We have been threatened and manhandled by them." He mentioned the Charlotte rally.

I told the man and woman that the Charlotte Police issued a statement after accusations were made there that the rally was peaceful and without incident. The guy cut me off and said, "I let you talk now it's my turn." I allowed him to continue. He said, "in Charlottesville, Va. the GOE made threats against their safety and especially Cindy, and one of their members was physically manhandled," by our members. I told him I hadn't seen any news on that rally yet.

So he again asked me to let him have his turn. Now remember, I have only asked a question. He then went on about how the media supports the pro war movement. We have FOX News. So I said, well you guys have CNN and all the rest. He disagreed and about this time a lady at says, the media is owned by this bunch of rich guys who tell it what to say and not say.

The guy is going on about how CNN and "their media" doesn't give them the coverage they want. They aren't truthful to the American people! The lady was also saying pretty much the same thing and how the media my words effectively censored the news! I ignored him and told the lady I totally agreed with her. She looked at me rather funny and said, " Well at least we have one thing we can all agree on." I said, "You know what, you're absolutely right." The guy looked annoyed. The lady was a little perplexed as if we shouldn't ever agree on anything but here we had just done so. She was actually quite pleasant and nice.

The whole thing was very subdued. Except for her guys getting up in my face when I was trying to take pictures, and becoming clutchy if they felt I was about to approach Cindy, things were without incident. I simply asked the guy to remove his hands. I reassured him I was only taking pictures. Oh, yeah, like I said , I did give one of these ladies a "yellow rubber duckie" for Cindy. That wasn't exactly received warmly but that was an eye contact reproach only.

I on occasion asked them to either step back or aside so I could take my pictures. They did so more readily after I reassured them the last thing I would want was to come into physical contact with Cindy or anyone else. They asked if they could take my picture. I said yes. One guy took a movie camera shot and another used his cell phone.

I gave my permission without reluctance in a pleasant manner. But, jeez, I am not in any way photogenic! I think this was more an effort to point out that there were only "two" of us, lol and one-hundred-fifty of them. There was only one downside to the whole thing other than only two of us. At one point USMCPOP suggested I might move further to the left of where I was standing as he had done. He says you don't want to get counted as one of them.

I was so busy taking pictures I didn't pay attention to one of their guys standing on our side with a huge protest banner. I was standing right next to him. I quickly moved!

I will be posting the pictures and sending GOE and USMCPOP copies. But my dog chewed my cord I use to download pictures from my camera to my computer. So, being broke for the next few weeks, I have to get my son's help to figure another way to download them. I think there must be some way, I just am not that skilled on this type of thing to figure it out.

If anyone knows how to do this,let me know, please.

I wish I could help on the camera issue.... all I can think of is that if your camera uses an SD card, some computers have a slot for them built in, so that makes me wonder if some might work in another's person's camera in order to get the pics downloaded. I know that if you go somewhere like Walgreens, you can take your SD card and slide it right in the slot to get your pics, but I don't know how much they'd charge to email them.

Saturday, September 15 Mass March on Washington & Die-In Led by Iraq Veterans

People will begin assembling at the White House in the late morning. There will not be an opening rally. A march will form with the front contingent of Iraq war veterans, family members of soldiers and marines and other veterans. When the march arrives at Congress, the Iraq Veterans Against the War and family members will be the leadership of a mass die-in symbolizing the deaths of an estimated 4,000 U.S. servicemembers. A powerful representation of the death of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis will be the other central component of this dramatic confrontation with Congress at the time that they will be debating spending another $100 billion to sustain the criminal occupation of Iraq.

The Die-In is a civil disobedience action that will involve at least 4,000 people who are able to risk arrest.

There will be a permitted rally taking place simultaneously with the Die-In. All those who cannot afford to risk arrest will be able to participate in the permitted rally that will take place on the West Lawn of the Capitol Building.

Though I agree with many things Cindy Sheehan has said, I believe her comments on the Gathering of Eagles were wrong. Though there are individuals in the Gathering of Eagles who cannot afford to ignore valid criticisms of the group, the group is just too diverse to use labels. But let me make the following observations:

1. Even before Sheehan made these latest comments, I have seen notes here that celebrate the silencing of those in the anti-war crowd--such as Sheehan when she announced her 1st retirement and Ward Churchill whose job might be terminated. Celebrating winning a debate, election, or popular opinion is understandable, why celebrate silencing of fellow Americans?

2. I've personally witnessed behavior by individuals from the Gather of Eagles that was meant to interfere with the free speech of others. I have read the comments of others on the internet that report the same.

3. I've seen attitudes here that indicate a feeling of superiority to others. These attitudes seem to say that some Americans are more worthwhile than others. These attitudes act as scissors cutting the paper on which the Declaration of Independence was written. The same goes for my fellow anti-war protesters who look down on supporters of the war.

As for the Nazi comparisons, history tells us that starting with the Night Of The Long Knives, liberals and pacifists were consistent targets of the Gestapo--that is both within Germany and in the countries to be invaded. Referring to liberals or pacifists as Nazis ignores this fact.

At the same time, liberals must admit that they can support different kinds of fascism than what the Nazis offered--see Cuba. Finally, a quote from the Russell-Einstein Manifesto (Einstein as in Albert Einstein)

It was hate speech and threats and lies made by members of Cindy Sheehan's "fan clubs / followers / handlers" i.e. A.N.S.W.E.R., Code Pink. WAC etc that gave rise to OUR movement. This fact is beyond dispute! So if you don't like an opposing front, you have only yourselves to blame!

I for one, would like to thank those of you " on the wrong side of the street" for waking me up to the facts of just how dangerous those like you are to our way of life. You continue to praise Hugo and Fidel while finding only fault with the most generous and yes, prosperous nation the world has ever known. My wanting every man woman and child to have the freedom that you, Mr Day, enjoy does not make me an evil or bad person. In fact , I contend that those like you, who would deny self determination to others are in fact the scary ones.

You make points above, #2 & #3, that may well have some validity however you never mention the same action / language also comes from those with whom you stand. And I have yet to read anything calling for the assination of Ms Sheehan on this site. The hate from your side of the street is much more vile and, in my never humble opinion, that is because your core arguements do simply not hold water. Have you posted similar condemnation on websites of people or groups that agree with you? I suspect not. There are very few two way streets in your little neighborhood.

Remember, prior to March 17th, those on "your side of the street," Mr Day enjoyed the luxury of a lack of an opposing, vocal view. In simpler terms you have been playing only offense. Now you must actually justifie your opinions & statments and with your "leadership", more often than not, exaggerating facts and refusing to answer even the simplest question, is it any wonder you and yours are uncomfortable! It’s refreshing to know that someone from the anti-war side realizes how off-putting and offensive Cindy Sheehan’s comments about the Gathering of Eagles were.

Truth be told, I haven’t been posting here long at all, but have been following, all along and with morbid curiosity, Sheehan’s shameful attempts to exploit the death of her son to raise her image in the media. I sincerely believe she has used the memory of her hero son as a crutch to forward her displaced philosophies, further emphasized by her visits to Cuba and Venezuela

As with any war, there are those who are "for and those who are "against —there were many who remained loyal to the Crown in the Revolutionary war, as I’m sure you are aware. This war is no different in that regard.

That being said, I’d like the opportunity for my own response to your talking points:

1) Sheehan chose to "retire, it wasn’t forced upon her. Not unless you count the fact that she was losing credibility and viability in the spectrum of partisan politics. She, quite obviously, was no longer the Democrat’s "media darling —that, in and of itself, is a great win for a non-partisan group such as the Gathering of Eagles, and of great cause for celebration. For you to infer she was somehow "silenced by something other than her own volition isn’t an accurate representation of what happened. 2) "Behavior that interfered with the free speech of others? The very same could be said of Sheehan herself—shall I quote from her blog? It would seem from her comments that she thinks only she and her followers have the freedom and the right to gather and express their views. 3) Please don’t confuse the Declaration of Independence with the rights that we all share that are guaranteed to us by our Constitution. The Declaration was simply that—a declaration to dissolve the political bonds with England. If the anti-war movement wishes to do the same with the United States of America, then by all means-- take up arms and declare war. 4) Nazi comparisons—Of course, it was Sheehan who first hurled the "Nazi slurs towards the Gathering of Eagles, not the other way around, and you can’t really fault anyone here for pointing out where she obviously erred in her characterizations. Personally, I remain utterly amused that she cannot coin new phrases or slogans, and that at times she cannot even seem to grasp the concepts behind the epithets she hurls. After all, some of those signs and slogans must have been found in someone’s attic, dusted off and shown daylight for the first time in 35-40 years. 5) Fascism? Cuba... . Venezuela... ..neither dictatorship is anything to be proud of to anyone other than those who share the spoils of power. Is the anti-war crowd really so short-sighted as to think that in either of those two countries dissidents aren’t physically harassed, or worse? Would you really give up your freedoms here to live there? Freedom, sir, is something worth fighting for—yesterday, today and tomorrow. Maybe you can’t understand that because you’ve (thankfully) never experienced, and perhaps cannot imagine, the opposite.

But when you go to bed tonight, perhaps you could take a moment to thank your lucky stars that you have the freedom to disagree with me, us, your neighbors, or your government—many others throughout history have died fighting for that very right.

Twice we came very close to a full scale nuclear war. Once was in the 60's when a Russian subcommander ignored an order to use tactical nuclear weapons on a US ship which could have easily escalated into a full scale war. Launch codes were dispersed and a full scale attack from the Russians came within 2 minutes from occurring.

Today, we are on the eve of proliferation where nuclear weapons will not be our only concern. What is needed is precedents and procedures for resolving conflicts rather than an eagerness to rely on the military. This is not my view nor the view of radical hippies, it is also expressed by former Nuremburg prosecutor Ben Ferencz. Otherwise, we only increase the chances that WMDs will be used.

BTW, the intended audience for that article were my fellow war protesters. If you only rely on the title of the article to make your point, realize that the title is a question rather than a statement. And again, I answer the question with a no.

Soapbox, I agree that some of the messages from the anti-war side has spurred some of the approaches taken by the groups like Gathering of Eagles. I remember my first protest at West Point, it was different than the protests in D.C. and NYC. There was an anger and some self-righteousness there that I did not see before. But it just wasn't at West Point where there is a problem. I was a fund raising dinner where someone posed a question to the speaker that was derogatory of Pres. Bush. The speaker, Kathy Kelly, immediately addressed the question with the remark that she hoped that Pres. Bush could be won over. I can stand behind that statement or statements that call for his impeachment because impeachment is a legal process. But there are many personal derogatory remarks about either Pres Bush or Conservatives that when made, show inconsistency to say the least and hypocrisy to say the most of some in the Peace movement. BTW, I have occasionally been the target of derogatory remarks because of my pro-life view. One person called me a Nazi because I am pro-life.

In addition, I think the peace movement today is lacking in some areas from the peace movement from the Vietnam era and vice versa. The peace movement in the 60's was a part of a larger movement of protest some of which came from the protests for rights and equality led by Martin Luther King Jr. King applied much of the thinking used in battling segregation and prejudice to oppose the Vietnam War. There are many in today's peace movement who seem to be ignorant of King's thinking and approach.

Mr. Day, I think, is giving the enemies of our allies in the war on terror entirely too much credit. They will bring the fight to our shores given half a chance, they have proven that. We cannot, through simple negotiation, treaties and/or agreements, forge a lasting, true peace with these people. We can only meet them eye to eye and fight them hand to hand. They know nothing else. They will settle for nothing else. Bitter combat is all they know, and total defeat is all they will accept, and then only grudgingly and with utter humiliation.

George, We are both for free speech. I understand the feeling of some to want to silence us because they feel we are a threat. That sentiment is returned by some in the peace movement.

Here is the issue, there are legal ways to suppress free speech as well as illegal ways. Legal ways include attacking the character of those on the other side so that either they grow tired or intimidated from participating or that their words will not be considered. There are legal ways of doing this but in the end, free speech is suppressed. Individuals from both sides are guilty here.

Our difference is not in character but with the model of thought being used when determining how we will fight our enemies. Your side feels that we need the same approach used to win WWII to battle Islamic terrorism. This is a valid view, though I would say it is an incorrect view. People who adhere to this view do so from a rational basis.

On the other hand, Vietnam taught us that the WWII mindset does not always work. The proliferation of WMDs, both present and future, demands a new approach to solving conflicts. Otherwise, regardless of the valor shown on the battlefield, our actions can become counterproductive.

The NIE points to the invasion of Iraq as pushing more people to the radical Islamic side. There were many warnings that this would occur if we invaded Iraq. Jason Burke, in his book on Al-Qaeda, stated that the key to winning this war is not in using the military but in how we influence the 1.5 Billion Muslims in the world.

It is not that we should never use force, it is that when using force, the more innocent civilians are affected by that force, the more we will push non radical Muslims to the radical side of their religion.

If both the Gathering of Eagles and the anti-war movement want to do our country a service, then we would focus the country's attention on the rationality of these two approaches rather than on character attacks.

Mike, Certainly there will always be rogue leaders. As Americans, we should be concerned with whether our President is one of them.

With regards to Cindy Sheehan. Yes and no regarding the Nazi comparisons. Yes, she wrongly called the GOE Nazis first. Yet, this is what GOE counterprotesters called us at the West Point protest which preceded her comments on GOE by a couple of months. Some GOE supporters also called us anti-Arab racists and anti-Semites. Both sides are guilty here.

Sheehan's forced short retirement is somewhat understandable. She blamed both sides of the debate for it. That include fellow anti-war protesters for letting egos get in the way of the cause.

Sheehan was made a media darling but I do not agree that Sheehan is exploiting the death of her son.

The point I made about Sheehan's silencing was not that any group silenced her, unless you want to call the hateful messages and emails from both some Democrats and pro-war side an exercise in silencing. But that people celebrate when people are silenced--especially those who have opposing viewpoints. I personally want both the pro-war side to speak out as well as the anti-war side. It is that when we speak, we should be examining the logic of the arguments put forth rather than trying to paint a slanted picture of the character of either side.

Thus Sheehan is definitely wrong in saying that only those who side with her should have the right to speak. There is no excuse for this

BTW, I look at the Declaration of Independence as being an inseparable partner with the Constitution. Remember that it is in the Declaration of Independence that we see a basic tenet for the founding of this country: that all men(should be people) are created equal. When either side views themselves as being superior(i.e. "real Americans"), they are opposing both the Declaration of Independence and the key presupposition on which the Bill of Rights is based. In addition, I would throw in Jesus' parable of the two men praying. The one asserting his own righteousness went home condemned while the one asking for forgiveness went home justified.

As for Cuba, though their programs have helped many people, many on the left, including Noam Chomsky, have protested their lack of freedom of speech. I had a debate about Cuba with a fellow anti-war protester regarding this issue. His defense of Castro was very interesting. He said that those who criticize Castro and his government are defined as being enemies of the people of Cuba.

Soapbox, I do not think the argument is that simple. We first must consider the causes of terrorism before deciding whether we can win people over or we have to use force. If we are contributing to those causes, then changing behavior can have a more profound effect against terrorism than just throwing force at it.

Our own history in that region suggests that we have played a part in developing the causes of terrorism. This does not excuse the terrorist attacks. But we are not put in a position where we must choose between either holding the terrorists responsible for their actions or seeing where we have contributed to the reasons for their anger. We can do both.

There are those who believe that all others must convert or die. Whether they will be able to recruit more followers to their cause will partially depend on the morality of our own actions.

How can the anti-war crowd continue to flock to her when she cannot be taken for her word, when she seemingly lacks all character and integrity? Let alone that she keeps harping for the lost cause-- impeachment. The votes simply aren't there, the consensus isn't there, but she continues her diatribe, day in and day out looking foolish in her own regard.

But as an Officer & a Gentleman (old school), it has always been my obligation to commend my troops when they displayed character above and beyond, and especially when they display such honest and direct answers as you did. I was honored to lead many troops with those same qualities, so I know 'em when I see 'em, and I believe in callin' 'em like I see 'em. Don't always have a nice fancy certificate to give, but I can still talk. And sorry, but you are not going to get out of accepting responsibility for telling the truth just by being "speechless", hehe.

I will be easy to find in the Million-Eagle crowd if I can make the trip. Just a little bent over old man now, but still carry a big stick (cane) that I all my "moon batter". I will probably be wearing a Texas Cowboy hat with an old cow bell around my neck, towing my flock of yellow ducks behind me. (You cannot be a leader if you don't have any followers, see.) Just keep up the good work and supportin' the guys and gals on the front lines. Irene, I do not see the problem with Sheehan reentering the movement that you see. Nor do I see a problem with Sheehan's credibility--unless of course you are demanding perfection where a mistake implies your totally untrustworthy.

But I do see two issues that separate the peace movement from GOE. The first issue is the view I cited from the Russell-Einstein manifesto that we either put an end to mankind or we abolish war. What I see both on this board and when meet eagles in person is a celebration of war and the use of force.

The other issue is an issue that Chomsky continually brings up. That issue is the principle of universality where the standards you use to judge others are the standards you use to judge yourself. My feeling is that most GOE members feel that America is exceptional specifically where America can hold other nations accountable for the same actions that they feel America is entitled to take. Chomsky notes that it is hypocritical for one of the most religious countries in the world to practice double standards.

Do GOE members really want a serious a focussed discussion on those two issues?

I was wondering if it included building the largest embassy in the world, having permanent military bases regardless of Iraqi opinion, and placing a benchmark on Iraq that demands that Iraq allows British and American oil companies to own much of Iraq's oil fields? But that does not really matter, what matters is that you evade my points and my questions, yet I have seen you try to call others out for, presumably, the same blunder. Et tu, brute? Because you see, one thing that unites the Eagles is a phenomenon known as "common cause, a concept Cindy Sheehan and the anti-war crowd obviously doesn’t seem to understand or you wouldn’t be so fractured on all the different political points. What is it today, hmmm? War or impeachment? Or is it Scooter Libby? First, what points have I evaded? The lawyer, whom the Republicans used to frame the articles of impeachment against Bill Clinton is now calling for the impeachment of George Bush because of his many abuses of power and lack of respect for the Constitution and the law. Fein reasoned that if perjury was good enough to impeach Clinton, why does lying and obstructing justice not merit the punishment that a judge sentenced Libby to? That is, btw, a point made by Sheehan. Perhaps, though, Fein is outdated too.

Second, perhaps you missed the significance of my Cuba reference. What is the difference between those in Cuba who view critics of Castro and the government as enemies of the Cuban people from those who view critics of Bush as being anti-American?

Third, common cause and being united is what everyone searches for. The question is, what is it that unites all Americans? Is it the policies of one President? Is it power? Is it dominance? Is it prosperity? Is it Empire? Or, as the possibly outdated Declaration of Independence has stated, is it the belief that all men are created equal? Isn't this concept of equality the belief upon which the Constitution is based?

And if you want to be united, how many current Americans would be excluded by your common cause?

And you might want to consider whether in criticizing GOE, whether Cindy Sheehan is repeating your actions only from the left. Or is it only the members of GOE who have the right to determine who is a "real American" and who is not?

Finally, as for supporting the troops, many veterans and those who are currently in the military do view us as supporting them. They tell us this by protesting with us or telling us while we protest. And when they don't affirm what we are doing, their parents do. Certainly not all veterans, active service personnel and their parents agree with us, but then again not all of them agree with your side either.
