Update on Operation Recruiter Appreciation (24 Apr)
Posted On: April 24, 2007 at 11:41 PM By: Coop
Click here to see a nationwide map of ORA Participation.

Greetings!

It's been just over two weeks since we announced Operation Recruiter Appreciation (ORA), and I'm happy to report that the response has been quite impressive! I have fielded hundreds upon hundreds of inquiries. To my knowledge there has been no media coverage on ORA at all. Yet as of today we have 136 commitments covering 40 states. With many other efforts underway at state and local levels that are not yet reflected in our total count.

If you're not yet familiar with ORA, and/or would like to know how to locate a recruiter near you, please read the original post here: http://gatheringofeagles.org/?p=257

Eagle Gerb was kind enough to put together a map showing which states are currently participating, along with icons marking sites within those states where ORA events are taking place. If you have any questions about this map or other aspects of ORA events, please contact me at coopbsure at yahoo com .

If you are considering taking part in or are already planning ORA events, please either contact your state GOE coordinator (if you have one and know his/her name) or E-mail me at the above address with the following information:

-Your name -Three initials of your choosing to be used to identify you on an image map and/or spreadsheet -Type of recruiter (Service or Services using this office) -Location of recruiter (City, state and ZIP code are sufficient if it’s a sole office; include address if there’s more than one to choose from in a particular zip code) -How you are planning to honor our military recruiters (don’t be shy — gimme details!)

In case you're wondering why Gathering of Eagles is sponsoring a recruiter appreciation effort, please take a look at these examples of vandalism and other attacks on recruiters (all in the name of peace, mind you!).

These are compliments of our Houston TX district coordinator, KA.

Watch this video. Between 2:00-3:45 see these "peaceful" protesters swarm an Armed Forces Recruiting Center. Notice how "peacefully" they interact with police officers.

And this response from a member of a very active grassroots "Support the Troops" organization:

Coop

I ... am very patriotic and support our troops but am royally against Bush and this false, unperpetuated war in Iraq. Since I am a member of troop supporting group was forwarded the message about National Recruiter's Day...which is the last thing I would be celebrating!

From all that I hear and read which is A LOT, these recruiters are not nice, good people to be commended. Many of them lie and lie some more to innocent, white-collar, young people throughout the country to get them to enlist. They paint a picture full of deception and lies.

WHY would you be celebrating them?? Thanks. T. Kurland

All that garbage listed above (which is just a sample) is piled onto an already difficult job. I'd like to thank T. Kurland for reinforcing exactly why I will be honoring recruiters on or near May 19th.

Thank you all for caring! Please consider getting involved, and don't let a limited budget stop you. Even a handshake and a smile can go a long way to brightening a recruiter's day.

Silent no more.

Coop

By the way, the next iteration of the map will include a legend for the icons. :-)

coop- you've done a fabulous job with organizing this event. i was particularly struck by the youtube video that you posted of the peace protest in dc. that certainly reminded me of why we need to do what we are doing. i'm making my arrangements for a site in new jersey and will be adding to your map markers soon. thanks

Glad you could use the "moonbats behaving badly" articles to illustrate just why we need to do this, and it makes me sick that someone who proclaims to support the troops would say that about recruiters, because they wear the same uniform, take the same oath. I have a friend from high school who served in the Gulf War, and is now a recruiter in Ohio. He has served our country for 19 years and he has a thankless job, and its about time someone stood up and said Thank you! I am disappointed in T Kurland, I have passed on information about ORA to most of my support organizations, and I hate to think Kurland is in one of my groups.

I think my favorite part of the youtube video was when they started chanting, "This is what democracy looks like". Democracy is dressing up in a hoodie, putting a hankerchief across your face, and dancing in a circle? I laughed so hard at that. They just don't grasp that in their favorite countries (Cuba, etc.) the right to protest does not exist (well, except to protest us "evil" Americans that is;). They also don't grasp the concept that the only reason they have that right to protest is because blood was spilled in earning and protecting it.

Since they do not teach history in schools anymore; (only socialist studies) the founding fathers knew that pure "democracy" devolves into mob rule. That is why we live in a REPUBLIC . The masked moonbats have no idea how precious a place this country is! That they are able to protest AGAINST the government is unhear of in most of the world. Our Educational system has failed if "democracy" is masked men, street violence, vandlism and adherence to ideologolies that destroy the very freedom that has been paid for by the blood of patriots.

I'm glad "T" Kurkland is offended. It means we are doing something right. He proves the need. On the other hand, I don't like the way the war is being fought either. Get the politicians, Lawyers, and professional butt kissers out of the way and turn the troops loose and let them end this thing, once and for all, under the leadership of the military. Then make all the "sweet-talk" with diplomats you like.

I must say that it is sad to hear people talking against our troops. These men and women are away from their family's and in danger so you can have freedom. You don't have to be for the war to support our troops.

Great job Coop! I still think non-coms should take the diplomats job. It would be so much quicker. :)

AMI, Are you saying that while you don't agree with the politics and policies, you do support the troops and their mission to nuetralize the jihad, protect the future of our country and try to create stability and peace in the middle east? :)

It makes me sick to my stomach to hear about stuff like this. As the spouse of a recruiter I know first-hand how hard our recruiters work. I also know the positive influence they have on so many people's lives. Thank you so much for sponsoring this effort!

This is important! As a former recruiter (11 years) and spouse of a current recruiter, I have first hand knowledge of how difficult a job it is. While not as dangerous as a combat job, we are in many cases, the first ones attacked by the public, simply because we are there. T Kurland is full of crap by saying he is patriotic and supports the troops. Guess what idiot? Recruiters are parts of those said troops. I take offense to your characterization of recruiters also. We don't need to lie about the military. Either it's for you or not. We don't want you if you can't be 100 committed. Thanks for doing this Eagles!

Just like to remind folks who say they are for the troops but against the war of a comment I read a couple of weeks ago.

Your position is much like saying you support firefighters, but hate that they stop fires; or that you support your local police but think they should all stay in the station and not enforce the laws against murder, rape, and robbery.

It's kinda hard to have your cake and eat it too, folks.

Heck, I wish I could personally thank every recruiter in the Nation! TxMarineMom, I'm in Lubbock too. GOETX sent me your email address. If you want I'll email you details of what we are planning so we can coordinate. :)

Hi Coop,

I'm a Soldier's Angel and have adopted the local recruiter's (in a addition to my growing list of adoptees lol). I stop in a few times a week to see how everyone is doing and bring some goodies. They are always on the go and put in an incredible amount of hours a week. They always take time out to talk to me and treat me like family. I have made a lot of friends and welcome any opportunity to spoil these folks. I had never heard of the recruiter appreciation day, but, you can believe, I'll never forget it!!!

I'm planning on bringing pizza, wings, salad, soda and of course my chocolate chunk brownies. I'll be doing this on Friday May 18th because I will be at work on the 19th.

Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention! Love your website.

Angel hugs, Dianne

I know I mentioned this before. Do you travel a lot due to your work?

I am an Illinois Eagle but I am currently working near Waldorf, Maryland.

My daughter and her boyfriend will be picking up my commitment for the Mt. Prospect, Illinois Multi-Service Recruiting Office. I picked up another Multi-Service office here in Waldorf, Maryland.

When we travel, we are still Eagles. Contact the State Co-ordinator where you are working temporarily and see if there is anything you can do to help. Spread your wings.

Another reason why it's important to call the recruiters first. Coop

I work for a property management company and we manage an office. The current recruiter used to be my contact for their offices 6 years ago. It was like old home week talking to him! He said he has received some emails about ORA and thought it was a hoax until he talked to me!

Aloha Coop!

I'm going to go over to the Oahu Veterans Center and post some flyers and talk to the head of the Veterans' groups here about Recruiters' Appreciation Day. I'll also call in to our local conservative talk stations and pass the word. I'm going to suggest that just dropping by and offering a thank you and a handshake or a slap on the back would be enough. Local people usually show their appreciation with food so they and their families should have some "grinds" for a few days. Movie passes, Blockbuster Video gift certificates for their kids, Starbucks and restaurant gift certificates will also be suggested.

Here is the word for Tucson Troop Supporters! We will be having a picnic in a park with softball and whatever else we can think of for all branches of recruiters and their families here.

Time: Saturday May 19th 2007 afternoon/evening. Place: An East Side Tucson park.

Needed: Volunteers to bring food, any extra bats, balls or gloves you can find and come to help serve the troops, set up banners / flags and clean up after. Park Games for kids volunteer needed. Early setup will be there by 3:00 pm, cleanup starts at 8:30 pm. I must know what food, drink or other supplies you will be bringing and how much so I can coordinate! Ask if you want a suggestion.

To volunteer in the Tucson area email Wayne Boettcher

Tucson Eagles, let's get together and show these troops that Tucson cares!

I, too, am a Soldier's Angel and am sending packages and mail to a military person in Afghanistan. When I heard about ORA, I got the day mixed up and hurried down to my recruiter's office on April 19. Needless to say, he was very surprised. I took some cookies and thanked him for his work; work that must be hard. He gave me a big hug and said I had made his day. I'll be sure to go back on the "official day" and bring some other goodies. I will have to say that the posters were wonderful and if I weren't such an old lady, would have been tempted to enlist.

Coop, I'm just starting to test the waters here in the south hills area of Pittsburgh. I am mailing a letter with a copy of the GOE Briefings of April 7, 2007 to area American Legion Post. I have given my home and cell numbers in this letter and will be phoning the posts to see if interested in getting involved. Since there are so many recruiter locations in this area, not sure which location people will want to visit. Several people in the north hills area of Pittsburgh have contacted me thru the GOE site and will try to organize with them.
