Security Update #3

As the numbers of those promising to participate in this "Gathering of Eagles" multiplies, activities and expectations must also change. It should be obvious to all that everyone who has declared an intention of being there is not going to be in any one spot at the same time. We will all be moving around the vicinity of various memorials.

Each of us who is attending this important event is there to accomplish our mission. To do that, and allow each of us to leave knowing that we have been an important part of it, we will all need to be flexible and ready to change as the circumstances warrant.

First, for all who are unfamiliar with the area, you are aiming generally for the Lincoln Memorial. There will be Gathering of Eagles volunteers to assist and direct you when you get in the area of it. The Viet Nam Veterans Memorial is not visible from the street so do not look for it from street level. It is a little northeast of the Lincoln Memorial. The Korean War Veterans Memorial is a little southeast of the Lincoln Memorial. The World War II Veterans Memorial is directly east of the Lincoln Memorial.

Second, the opposition has announced that it is forming up between Henry Bacon Drive and 23rd Street, south of Constitution for it's parade to the Pentagon as well as having small groups forming up in various other areas. There may well be some confusion about where our areas will be, but we will have volunteers around the Park to assist and direct you.

Third, weather and other factors will impact the exact spots that we will occupy once you arrive. We must all remain flexible about this. There will be plenty of space for us all as long as we do not demand that we must huddle up in the same space for the duration. There are trees and several areas where those who are bringing chairs may sit to relax. The mission is serious, but there should also be plenty of good company to enjoy.

Greetings:

A few of us will be coming from the Armed Forces Retirement Home, which is located in the District of Columbia a couple of miles north of the United States Capitol.

Now that ALL of us Viet Nam veterans are a whole lot older, will there be plenty of portable latrines set up in the area?

At our age, when we have to go, we have to go IMMEDIATELY!

What about other logistical requirements, such as food and water?

I plan on bringing my guitar and a canteen of water, unless it's too cold, because cold temperatures affect my guitar strings.

Thank you.

Flexibility is the key to success in any military operation. I will comply with any requests that are made. Thabks again to all who are co-ordinating this and all who will participate. This will truly be history in the making.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. These assholes have no idea who they are facing. There is nothing meaner and nastier thana group of grumpy old men, except for grump old women. I have a suggestion how to chase them away. All you have to do is is tell them all about your aches and pains and the meds you take. If that doesn't make them run nothing will!

Godspeed!

I am not traveling with a group or participating with any ONE group, I am traveling from California to show my support for those in uniform.

I did not serve in the military (Chose a different path, Military service would have been much easier)

There are 3 of us and we will be looking for assistance in the form of directions, and logistics...

We have never been to DC, we are staying near the Key Bridge?? We plan on using the Metro to get around or cabs or hoofing it...

We will be there, and if there is anything we can help with drop me an email.

Greetings:

I just thought of another logistical requirement.

With so many elderly veterans gathering in one spot, I hope somebody has made arrangements to have ambulances and paramedics standing by.

There had better be plenty of drinking water and plenty of portable latrines.

Thank you.
