Soldiers Angels Annual Valour-IT Fundraiser
Published: 10/24/2009 Posted On: October 24, 2009 at 7:26 AM By: Kathy
Folks, the annual Valour-IT fundraiser is kicking off in FOUR (26 OCT) days.  We are running until Veteran's day.  We're doing the teams thing again, and I'm inviting all of you to be on the Army team.

This link http://soldiersangels.org/index.php?page=army-codes will allow you to get the code to put the thermometer widget on your web page (which I would greatly appreciate.)  Clicking the donate button on the widget donates the money to the pot that ALL services use, But the Team that raises the most $$$ Is the team that gets Bragging rights extraordinaire.  I want the Army team to raise $250,000--that will provide over 250 laptops for service members that have lost the use of their eyes or hands, or otherwise can't use a mouse or keyboard.  I will gladly offer up photographs of my injuries if you need them to tell the stories, or photos of my hands now--they almost look like regular hands.  I will do interviews and tll my story for you if you like.

But this has to be more than us.  I'm sure we all read the exact same blogs every day.  If that isn't so, then please write the authors of the blogs you do read and ask them to join the team.  If you join the team, please send me a note with Team mate in the subject, and a blurb about who you are and what you write--anything you'd like me to add in the list of teammates.

Next topic. for two weeks--just write a post about the project, the charity, me and how sexy I am, how cool it is that a wounded warrior figured out how he could help other wounded warriors (from his hospital  bed) and how Soldiers Angels backed him up and makes that happen.  How that guy was never given any award from the nobel committee for actually doing something that gave those hurt by alfred nobel's invention hope that they could return to normalcy.

Moreover, I would really appreciate it if you would share this link with other page authors /admins you know.  I'd really love to see some action with an instalanche and a farkalanch (my site is www.frommypositon.com)

Please, expand this way beyond milblogs.  I want as many alternate-stream blogs and mainstream blogs writing about this as policy.  Even the LBGT are absoultely welcome.  Right wing blog, left wing blog, east coast/west coast, From Anarchists to Tyrants, from Christians to Muslims, Jews, Buddhists and Mormons.  I will not, however allow any Amish Bloggers.  Nobody (except yours truly) can read their version of German, and Their Blogs are written on actual Logs.  Nothing says community like supporting wounded troops.  I'll keep a running tally of any blog that emails me and says they want to join the team, and will, unless otherwise directed, post their URLS as team members.  And if anyone has a URL for an Amish Blog, I'll gladly post it.  Especially if they'll join the Army Team

There's nothing in this for me.  I gain nothing here.  But trust me, one of the best days in my life was the few days after I'd died--twice--then came back and met the Angels, Then saw my wife, and finally when I was given back the ability to use a computer--even though I couldn't lose my hands.

Another in my list of "Best Days" is the day I got to give a kid--an 18 year old kid who'd lost his hands--a laptop that he could use with his voice.  The look on his face was priceless when I gave him the laptop--like I was a special kind of stupid and he didn't have a pencil to stick in his teeth.  Then I put the headset on him, and showed him how he could train the computer to use his voice to do EVERYTHING he used to do with a computer.  Minutes later, he was reading his email, then chatting with his buddies back in Iraq.  I left a soldiers angels coin with him, and my card, and quietly walked away.  That day ranks with the Marriage and birth of my children as best days in life.  It ranks as the best day I've ever had in 17 years of service.  And I had that same experience three times that day.

Giving that laptop to those soldiers was amazing.  If I could, I'd spend every day doing it.  My hope is to raise as much awareness for this as we can, so that we can make sure every wounded servicemember who has lost the use of their hands and eyes, can get one of these machines, and not have to be placed on a "waiting list."

The Team Army Goal is $250, 000.  The goal I want to raise for all services is $1 Million. That's more than one thousand laptops,  That will give us the ability to meet every need we currently have, and should help us (god willing) have enough to last throughout the year.  Injuries we see today take arms and legs and eyes.  Taking away eyes and arms isn't something we can fix, but we do have the opportunity here to give the men and women who've lost the use of theirs the technology to help them get some function of normality back in their lives.

Please, contact your friends and fellow blogers and admins.  If they need to talk to me, this is my personal email account, a (email me for his email address)
Forgive me if this has been rambling--I've had a pretty bad pain day, and took a nice handful of pain meds so I can sleep tonight.

Soldiers Angels is a 501 (c) 3 charity, VALOUR-IT (Voice Activated Laptops for OUR Injured Troops) is a project under Soldier's Angels.

Thank you for your time.
