Heroes and Horrors

Three of America's finest sons; Navy SEALS Matthew McCabe, Jonathan Keefe and Julio Huertas are facing arraignment on Pearl Harbor Day and then Court Martial. Their crime? Allegedly punching one of Iraq's most wanted terrorists, Ahmed Abedm, and giving him a bloody lip. Granted these fine young Americans requested a court martial as opposed to an admirals mast, which is apparently a disciplinary hearing, but it's the only way they can clear their records and continue their careers. Is this not appalling to everyone? How did these charges ever get this far? Where are their superior officers in condemning and demanding that these charges be dropped? Where is the Commander in Chief demanding that these charges be dropped? And since when is a bloody lip worthy of a year in jail? How many of us would have served that year in jail as kids on the playground? I would have, for punching a boy who had the nerve to put his arm around me when I was in 6th grade.

I did a google search this morning trying to collect information for this piece. 73 news articles on it, most of which say exactly the same thing. Out of curiosity, and an admittedly jaded outlook, I also searched "Obama Thanksgiving". 6853 news articles, many about the President's pardon of the White House turkey. Really?? A turkey is more important to the main stream media than the careers of 3 Navy SEALS. I am embarrassed for our country.

Now I was never a SEAL, nor have I ever served in the military, but it is my understanding that a SEAL is trained to the point where his entire body is classified as a weapon (feel free to correct me if I am wrong in this). That these young men showed the presence and strength of character to ONLY give Abedm a bloody lip is a credit to them and their training. Personally I think he should have been executed, on sight, but then I have never been known for my political correctness nor my tolerance of the enemy.

I keep hearing how various tactics used by our military are against the Geneva Convention. I thought that applied to a country's army while fighting in a declared war, in uniform. I haven't heard a single country step up and claim the Islamic Jihadists as 'theirs'. They wear no uniforms, they employ uncivilized, cowardly forms of combat and utilize civilians as shields and detonators. The US government refuses to acknowledge this as a "war", therefore the rules of combat set within the Geneva Convention should not apply. You can't have it both ways. You can't expect our military to follow the rules of war and then claim we are not really at war. The jihadists are cowards and what Abedm planned and executed with those 4 Blackwater contractors is just one example of their lack of ethics.

I am furious that our government has sent the worlds finest military into battle with their hands tied behind their backs. I am furious that the Commander in Chief refuses to acknowledge that Victory is the desired outcome, I'm furious that "he" will "finish the job". What job does "he" plan to finish? Would it be so very difficult to stand up and say we are embroiled in a WAR with Islamic Jihadists? You can't expect to win something you refuse to define.

These young men are Heroes. I call now on all of you to phone, write, email, whatever it takes, your state representatives the White House, the DoD and anyone else you can think of and DEMAND that these charges be dropped immediately.
