A Gift For Ft. Hood

(received from Blue Star Mom Eva Young)

Tomorrow morning, Dec 4th, at Ft. Hood , nationally known artist Lei Hennessy-Owen will be presenting and dedicating an 18 foot tall Angel sculpture, titled “Freedom’s Angel of Steadfast Love”, in honor of those who lost their lives or were injured last month in the most deadly terrorist attack in the US since 9/11.

Lei’s sculptures are on exhibit all over the country, honoring the bravery of folks such as former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch, and former NFL star and Army Ranger Pat Tillman, who was killed in Afghanistan.

Perhaps the most talked about Freedom’s Angel would be the 30 foot, 8,000 lb sculpture that, seemingly, appeared overnight at the WTC site in November 2001, remaining there as a comforting presence and symbol of protection for almost a year.  Another Angel stands close by the Flight 93 crash sight in Shanksville, PA.  Lei’s work of delivering angels over the past 8 years has shown that the most sacred commemorations and memorializing does not stop, even when official memorials stall.

Not only is Lei a vastly talented and aptly inspired artist, but she is also an asset to the troop support movement, a proud Blue Star Mother and a very dear friend of mine and too many.
