Pelosi wouldn't honor anyone or anything. She is a waste of time & makes me gag everytime she opens her mouth. I love & honor our troops--past, present & future. I'm so sick of her & Reed that I could eat glass. America has to come to it's senses soon. This country can not come under the control of these lame brain people. Thank God for our new GOE & all our Vets. Please stand together & keep these brainless folks in their place---I'm not sure where that is but I can tell you it is not leading our troops.
To: Gabi
Great resignation ! Thank God it's not real. we need 'W' to see us through ! We are not the type to quit !
To: Gabi
I am so glad to see this on the website. I had received it via email and had wondered if it were appropriate to forward to GOE. I guess soldiers (past and present) have more internal fortitude than this civilian. Thank God for our president and those troop who serve our great nation.
To: Gabi
Yes, we do face a unique enemy, however, invading and occupying foreign countries is far from a solution. The irony behind Bush's foreign policy is that his so called "War on Terror" has only served to dig us into a deeper hole in the eyes of radical Islam.
If we focused on, for instance, making sure every last one of our citizens got the medical care they needed, we would save many more lives that by perpetuating these senseless wars. To: Gabi
thorne - you are one of the useful idiots - please go away
To: Gabi
Thorne-
You have the wrong website. You are looking for the A.N.S.W.E.R. wesite. This is where we SUPPORT the troops! That is where you go to bash them. Bye now!! To: Gabi
Thorne, Please note in the "resignation letter" why it is stated W would quit. "I’m fed up with you people. I’m fed up because you have no understanding of what’s really going on in the world or of what’s going on in this once-great nation of ours. And the majority of you are too damned lazy to do your homework and figure it out."
If you, Thorne, did your homework then you would realize that a national healthcare system is not something that is currently supported by our national infrastructure. It would include raising taxes, additional taxes on everyone, plus normalizing Corporate Medical and Prescription Drug Companies (which by the way are private not federal) and thus, you would be bit**ing about higher taxes and blaming the Republicans again! Come on now-Do your homework! How hard is it to crack a book? This country was built on CAPITALISM, as in making money, NOT REPUBLIC DEMOCRACY. If you want National healthcare go to Europe and deal with their government. Let America and the true Americans do the AMERICAN thing and leave being a real American to us and our soldiers! To: Gabi
Carolyn - Why am I an idiot merely for having different political views than you? I make no assumptions about the intelligence of any visitors to this site--in fact, I consider one of the smartest people I know my grandfather (who's still alive and kicking, amazingly), who happens to be a diehard Republican. I've always appreciated the fact, actually (as as he, I hope), because we provide each other a source of political debate, and we know that, when all is said and done, we still care about each other very much.
patriot007 - How did I imply that I don't support the troops? In fact, I proudly display a sticker on the back of my car that affirms that I DO support our troops. I'm a college student, so obviously my means are limited, but I have donated supplies to the various charitable organizations that send of "home comforts" to our brave servicemen abroad. I've never appreciated this stereotype that liberals don't support the troops--it may be true in some circumstances, but I don't see how I can't be against the war and still honor their bravery. Simply because I do not agree with the decisions that our president makes does not negate that fact--I hope you are not too close-minded to appreciate that. Gabi - I have done my homework, and I realize we cannot just flip a switch--the infrastructure currently isn't there. Just like it wasn't after World War II when England instituted theirs. Perhaps someone who had not "done their homework" might blame Republicans for any higher taxes that may be as a result, but people have to realize that taxes exist for a reason, to pay for the services of the government. I simply think a better use of my tax dollars would be ensuring that my brethren are able to get the health care they need. I challenge you to crack a book. The Founding Fathers' primary concern was diffusing power among the people, a "Republic Democracy" (a misnomer, I might add). We got to where we are in a lot of ways due to Capitalism, sure, but what about things like public schools, social security, etc? To You All - The internet is a free place. I didn't come here to start a flame war, I came here because I saw this article linked from digg and wanted to share my two cents. I love my country very much, consider America the best place on the earth to be, but she has her fair share of flaws, and, just like all of you want, I'm sure, is the very best for her. Therefore, I don't see why I'm an idiot or un-American. To: Gabi
Thorne, I agree-America has her flaws. But she has her strengths too...and right now our troops are fighting IN Iraq & Afghanistan for American and her people. Think about it...if we weren't over there fighting-we would be fighting over here. So I believe that troops support should be a much larger focus than national healthcare currently. Let's tackle national healthcare after we can tackle education budgeting and after we can tackle state Congress' not being able to decide on a state budget or allocation of state money but can decide to give themselves a 3 pay increase. Let's focus on the troops first they need us more right now. Let's support them and then get them home and then we can fix home. Americans tend to lose their focus on any issue after a short time span anyway...so let's focus on our Military-guys who are laying down their life for America and her citizens to be able to have the opportunity to fix her flaws.
To: Gabi
Thorne,
By all means, feel free to elbow your way into here and to bring up a tired, overdone "issue" that's being used as a cynical political prop by the Democrats and their media pals. I mean, since the Democrats have done such a standup job with our wildly overfunded, woefully underperforming public "schools", let's hand them health care too, right? Then let the excuses begin! And if there is a "right" to health care, why isn't there a"right" to the services of a lawyer, whenever we want it, government paid? Think the Democrats will push for that, too? Why not? What if I can afford a lawyer but don't feel like paying for it? Can I stick the govt with the bill, like people do with health care? Back to the subject at hand - President Bush would be justified in sending a letter like this. He's a good man, trying to do a tough job, a job made tougher by domestic enemies who instead of helping him out, continually try to destroy him for greedy and partisan political gain. And I for one, am increasingly tired of leftists throwing out the old "we" need to do this, "we" created Osama, "we", "we", "we". There is no "we". If you're part of the "anti-war" movement (which is really pro-war, but for the other side), you are a one-worlder, citizen of the world, starfleet trooper or whatever trendy moniker you and clowns like you call yourselves at this moment. What you are not, is part of anything that I identify myself with. So there is no "we". The anti-war left may physically reside in North America, they may even claim American citizenship, but what they are not, are actual Americans. To: Gabi
Gabi, I do agree that may be other things we need to accomplish before tackling health care, I merely brought it up as an illustration of a target of spending that more matches my politics. I personally disagree with the whole belief that withdrawing from Iraq will bring the fight home, but I know plenty of people who do feel that way and can appreciate why they do feel that way. I do support the troops, and despite what your side of the political spectrum may think, there are those of us on my side who honestly do want the best for our troops. Their sacrifice has been huge, and the biggest thing I want to see is as many of them coming home unharmed after putting their life on the line.
Brian, I've already iterated my beliefs above, and I honestly think that public health care is a possibility. It works in Canada, England, Japan, France, and Germany, so why not here? What makes us different. I challenge you to explain to me why I am not a "real American." The reason I want universal health care is I care about my fellow citizens, and I want them to be able to receive the help they need. In the meantime, I celebrate July 4th every year, I have an American flag flying on my front door, I go to work every day and pay taxes, and I quietly honor the losses our country sustained on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks every year. Most of my ancestors were British and German and immigrated in the late 1600s and early 1700s, including one who was on the Mayflower. I show up at the polling stations every year to vote. I eat fast food too much for my own good, I drive an American car, and I follow the Atlanta Braves and Falcons rabidly and watch the World Series and Super Bowl every year. Meanwhile, I live in a country where people claim to look out for their neighbors, and I'm told that I'm not a real American because I want all of my fellow Americans to get health coverage? To: Gabi
Thorne
Universal Health care does not work in England and Canada! As my bride, the Priness, could tell you, everyday citizens from those two countries come to the large teaching hospital where she has been a RN for thirty years and plop down their life savings for surgery that they can not wait for in their country. For many it is go broke or DIE. A friend mine from Toranto had a car accident and waited on a list fo nearly twenty monthes to get his nose fixed! This also caused him to loose his job since The pain caused by his injury made it impossible for him to fly. So no I don't look at you as an idiot but rather an idealist. And that is a good thing. But why is your health care my responsibilty? Want free health care? Become an illegal alien or a convict and you'll get all the free health care you can stand. I perfer to earn what I get. And by the way we do appreciate your support of those in harms way Gabi And smart too, just read you above comments & my heart started to flutter! Back to the bidding board!!!!!!! How do you feel about the back seat of a Road King? To: Gabi
Thorne-
The only support for our troops that counts, it that which includes the support of their mission. I don't really understand any other kind of support. For instance, if I say I support Hillary for president, but don't VOTE for her, that would not be support now would it? You either support the troops and their mission or you don't support the troops! Can't really make myself any clearer than that. Your universal health care, as stated by those above, simply does not work. I personally do not care to pay the bills of people who will not care for themselves. My taxes should pay for the elderly, the disabled and military veterans period! Everyone else needs to get a damn job and get off Uncle Sam's payroll. Oh, and by disability I don't mean alcoholic or drug addict! Go get in a 12 step program, get your shit together and get back into society for those "disabilities". Millions have done it, including myself. Grrr! But thanks for playing!! To: Gabi
patriot007,
See, I don't agree with the Hillary analogy (I much prefer Obama, by the way), because it implies that I don't wish success for our troops. As long as we are over in Iraq, I want them to succeed. I want them to survive and accomplish their goals as long as they are stationed there. I don't agree with the man calling the shots and would like to see them not tasked with those goals, but, as long as they are, I wish them the best of luck. Meanwhile, all people can say here is that universal health care "simply does not work," and provide the occasional horror story, but for every horror story I hear, I hear one from the opposite side. Innumerable Canadians, Brits, and French are immensely proud of their health care systems, which may be imperfect in the sense that they have their flaws, but function better that ours does. Also, on the topic of "getting a damn job," I'm a proponent of making welfare a system where the government employs people to do public works rather than making it a system of handouts. To: Gabi
Thorne Just one more moment of you time sir. Like it or not our health care system has proven itself to be the best in the world time and time again. Yes it is the best medicine money can buy but if you need to have your chest cracked I'll bet my last dollar that you would rather have it done at Mayo or Duke or Clevland Clinic than in some hospital in France. Government employing people to do public works jobs? If you haven't noticed we are at virtually zero unemployment(for those who actually want a job). And besides more people on the tax payers Dime, just what we need. Perhaps we should all just throw all our money into a big hat and let the good people in Washington hand it back to us as they see fit. You know, from each according to his abilities to each according to his needs. Wait, I've heard that somewhere else before! Nowhere on earth is there a more generous people then in America but for some it is just never enough is it Thorne?
To: Gabi
Soapbox, First of all, I must issue the disclaimer that I am very much proud to be an American, because what I'm going to say is obviously going to stir the pot a little bit, but you couldn't be more wrong about America having the best medicine money can by. The US ranks 37th in the World Health Organization's assessment of the world's health systems, between Costa Rica and Slovenia. Individual institutions in the system, yes, may be great, but overall the system leaves a lot to be desired. Ironically, the number one spot goes to France.
At the very least, we need legislation to tame the business practices of the insurance companies whose unfair medical policies rob people of the opportunity to get the care they need. Fortunately, I have the benefit of being insured under a very good plan, so I don't have to worry, but I honestly would not mind paying more to ensure that America's workforce is healthy. To: Gabi
France, yes! That is where my Mother broke her arm while traveling abroad. The doctors there did such a fantastic job it had to be rebroken and reset when she returned to the states. But hey! It was FREE!!!
To: Gabi
Oh Thorne- One more thing. I like to do my homework before responding. Since I don't believe what I read, I go to sources with actual experience. My girl friend lived in Costa Rica for 6 years. I ask "if your son were sick with any life threatening illness, would you have him treated in Costa Rica or the US?" She said "are you kidding me? here. Health care is cheap there, but not even close to being as good as we have here? Why?" When I told her what you said about World Health Organization she said "well, tell them to live there for 6 years and see what they say". So, I am just saying...
To: Gabi
I love this ridiculously bitter post! So now it's you guys and W vs. the American people. Man, with that attitude, the GOP is gone, and none too soon. I guess me and the rest of the "75 percenters" who apparently hate America will be able to breathe a sigh of relief come Jan. 20, 2009. Keep it up, fascists! Why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel! Hahahahahaha!
To: Gabi
I can only dream that Bushie would take his toys and go home. If the GOE can do anything to help make that happen, I support you!
To: Gabi
Sam,
I remember when supporting your country was considered PATRIOTIC, now you call that fascist. If we can believe the news, the Democratic controlled congress is just even more unpopular. Hard to explain huh? God bless American, her leaders and her military! To: Gabi
Thorne
Guess you missed what I said " the best money can buy." That assumes a free market place. If you need a bypass you want it done by the Doctor with 15-20years of experience at $10K or the Intern with a year under his belt at $1500? Bet I know the answerto that one !!!! And you are willing to pay more to insure all americans have health care, how very good of you, seriously ! Now the real question, how much more? If your house needs painting you probably want to jump on that before you wash your neighbors car. Good nite, Thorne I believe you are a good person and truly idealistic, that's a good thing but you are a bit unrealistic. Sadly human nature just don't work out that way. In the end we all look out for ourselves and maybe those we truly love. Sad perhaps but true. To: Gabi
Hey Thorne,
I just had a Scotsman visiting for 3 weeks. He got to place a wreath on the Vietnam Memorial on Memorial Day weekend, see the Rolling Thunder crowd, the GOE people, Lexington, Concord. He understands us a whole lot better than he had. He now understands and applauds why we are in Iraq. He also tells me the health care in the UK is not what it is cracked up to be. Try being someone who is 60 and needs a total knee replacement. You either wait a very long time for it or you are denied as you are to old and don't need it. That's just one example of their system. The rich in Europe, UK, Canada etc. come here and pay to be operated on. I wonder why....! This same guy now also understands that he is more of a subject of the UK than a citizen. How he lives is based on a benevolent government that may be about to radically change. We aren't perfect, but we sure the hell are the best experiment in government in a very long time. I would guess you need time traveling in other countries yourself to realize just how good you got it here. Those soldiers, sailors, marines, and airboys in harms way certainly do. OOOOhhhh....Rahhhhhh....! Semper Fi..! Eagles up and away....! To: Gabi
Now to get back to the original article. I personal enjoyed reading the article and agree with most all that it addressed. The only failure I can see that the current Bush administration has is concerning the public relations side of the actions conducted by our military.
I do not understand why President Bush , Cheney, Rice and even Colin Powell all have failed to even once speak up on the admissions of the past Russian General and those of the Iraqi officers who have told us, the When , Where , How and what the happened to the Weapons of Mass Destruction. Much of the failed support from both the USA citizens and the world governments is related to the WMD's. I am not sure if one can place a URL here or not ? But if it is permitted, I recommend that all read this fallowing article that our news and press failed to cover. Exclusive: Saddam Possessed WMD, Had Extensive Terror Ties By Scott Wheeler CNSNews.com Staff Writer October 04, 2004 http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/10/4/141421.shtml Now to address Thorne's comments. I respect your rights to think what you do and to tell others. I have served to see that all have that right in the USA. However I believe that you have the potential of learning the truth and changing your views. I suggest that you go and read this nest URL that is a article on the intent of those who we are fighting in Iraq and elsewhere. We must unite ! http://groups.msn.com/ProAmericaProConservative/general.msnw?action=get message&mview=0&ID Message=20128&LastModified=4675530905579911501 I will close with this ! God Bless the Troops who are protecting our freedoms and bringing freedom to the people of the world ! Both past and present. To: Gabi
The one thing that I understand about this war and the fact that Bush has gotten most of it right is that this is a type of war that we've never fought before. No one and I mean no one can say with any certainty that we have failed in Iraq, or that a particular stratgey has failed, or that something hasn't worked. It may simply not have had enough time to work yet. We are trying to fight a war like no other and do it with one hand tied behind our backs and in a way that is politically correct. No Militray can do that successfully overnight or in a weekend. We are also expected to build a mighty army from scratch including infrasturcture, administration, equipment, and capability in less than four years. America lost it's patience with the invention of the fast food and the micro wave and no one can do anything fast enough to please us. We had to drop an Atomic bomb on Japan to end WWII or it may have gone on for years but our leaders still insist on comparing success in that time frame. If we are to be graded by that time frame then let us use the same strategies and tactics. It would make no difference how many lives we save with a National Health care system if we lose the war against an Islamic Idelogy that wants to kill all of us.
