FrontPage Magazine Interviews COL Harry Riley
Posted On: March 1, 2007 at 2:17 PM By: Redhead Infidel
Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Colonel Harry G. Riley, the recipient of the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and other awards and badges including the Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge, and Army Staff Badge. He served over 34 years in the US Army. He was commissioned as a 2LT in 1966 and promoted to Colonel in 1989. He served in command positions from Detachment through Battalion level and staff assignments from Brigade to Chief of Staff Army level. He served two tours in Viet Nam and did several tours in Germany.

Col. Riley is one of the organizers of the national counter-protest Gathering of Eagles, a veterans group of Americans who will gather in Washington, D.C. on March 17 at the Vietnam Memorial Wall to serve as a counter-demonstration to an anti-war rally there on that day. The Gathering of Eagles will act to block any anti-war protestors who try to desecrate, damage or dishonor the Memorial Wall.

Watch your backs, guys. If there is an attempt to desecrate the Wall by anti-war demonstrators on 17 March, and the "powers that be" again order the Park Service or the D.C. police not to intervene, and you do, you may end up in prison just like our Border Patrol guys who took their job seriously and actually tried to prevent illegal aliens from smuggling drugs across the border.

I don't anticipate any problems with desecration of any monuments. There will be too many of us. Yes, we'll likely be outnumbered, but that's irrelevant. The fringe element that does the vandalizing is a bunch of cowards, often with masks covering the peach fuzz on their faces. I just don't see them standing up to military veterans in numbers.

My friend Joe Norman sent me the information about this site. It makes me furious that anyone could disrespect the brave angels that have the guts to fight, that have been wounded and that have died in battle so that citizens may live free and enjoy the benefits that come with it. People forget that these patriotic warriors are the reason that Americans have the rights to protest the war or anything else that they don't agree with in this country. What a shame that in exercising those rights they often lose sight and forget where their indebtedness lies. Anyone who could spit on or degrade a war veteran or a monument that honors a war vet living or dead is sub-human and just as evil as any enemy who would try and destroy this great nation. Wake up American citizens if we don't support our military men and women WHO DO THE JOB FOR US while we sit in the comfort of our homes TAKING FOR GRANTED AND ENJOYING THE REWARDS from their sacrifices then we will surely slide into a deep hole of oppression ruled by the likes of the black hearted freedom takers like Bin Laden or that pompous little dictator with the big ego Kim Jong-il. I have posted the Goe information and some comments from my friend Joe in the guestbook on our site so that hopefully more people will get the news on this event. God Bless our military, past and present, they have earned and deserve and should get appreciation, love and respect from all Americans.

Chill, brothers and sisters, chill; I feel less afraid about going to this event with my brothers in arms than I have ever felt about anything else. Yes, I’m a crippled up old fat-man with a bad ticker now and most likely couldn’t hold out very long, but I really believe that rather than try to desecrate that wall, or attack me physically, the commie-moon-bats would rather sandpaper the hair off of a wildcat’s butt in a phone booth. They should know, this is men’s men and we won’t cut and run. We’re not here for ourselves, we’re here for those who gave their all. I’m praying that the Lord will get involved and keep that from happening. I know for a fact that there are many of us going who are praying for God’s intervention. I know some of you are NOT praying that way, and that’s okay. I’m still going to stand with you and be proud of you as my brothers and sisters in arms no matter what happens. John the Baptist was thrown in jail and had his head cut off for speaking the truth in public. Paul the Apostle landed in jail several times because he wouldn’t let people intimidate him. What are they going to do shoot me? I been shot. What are they going to do, send me to Vietnam? I been!

Very well said! Being a devil pup (comparatively speaking), thank you for your service there and your intuitive thoughts on this situation we have at hand here in DC on the 17th.

I am very proud of my brother in arms. I wish I could be a part of the historical gathering in Washington D.C. I was there in 87 when a young punk vandalized the monument to our fallen brothers. If the soldiers on FT.Belvior could have gotten a hold of him we would have killed him. There was a lot of anger on that fort that day and for along time after. Alot of us soldiers would go to that monument an reflect on ourselves and what the young soldiers in Viet Nam must have went through.I know that standing in front of that wall made me very proud to be a soldier and serve my country. Givem hell boys. My prayers go with you. And most of all thanks. God bless each and every person who makes the trip to defend the sacred wall.

Negative, Rick. I'm a Desert Storm vet. I don't even know where Nha Trang is (shame on me, I know). My Dad was down in the Delta - Brown Water Navy, 68-69.

I heard some dirtballs musing that if the Nam Memorial was protected they would "piss all over the WWII memorial and f--k up the Korean memorial". Un-bloody-believable! I can't believe that these pond droppings have the audacity to call themselves Americans.

This is a complete and utter waste of time even though the spirit and thought behind it is noble. The country has already spoke on their thoughts about the war during the election day vote and anything after that is just more of the same. Nothing is going to come out of this, so I recommend to all that you save your money and better apply to destinations where you can actually make a difference in the Vets arena. How about the March session of the Veterans Disability Commission where they are now voting on the Concurrent Receipt doctrine and revising the Line of Duty definition into our favor for Vet claims. There is a 5 minute limit at the public comment microphone for all speakers and you will be entered into the congressional record of the sessions when you do this. http://www.vetscommission.org Spend your valuable travel money on projects in Washington where you really do have a legitimate chance to alter the national course for Veterans instead of this lame Piddle and the Diddle.

Sue,

If you think "This is a complete and utter waste of time" then why are you wasting your time trying to tell us this is a waste of time?

Some people just make no sense.

Sue, the country also spoke their thoughts about the war in 2002 and 2004. (Were you paying attention then?) Fortunately for all of us, wars are not run by the fickle public.

Sue Frasier said: "This is a complete and utter waste of time even though the spirit and thought behind it is noble."

Sue, history is made by people with noble spirits who take action. But unfortunately for you, not by people who think such effort is a waste of time.

America was not forged by people who thought democracy was a noble concept but a "complete and utter waste of time." Nor are wars fought and won by such as you.

Sue Frasier said: "Nothing is going to come out of this"

Ohhhh, OK. Sue Frasier said it ain't gonna work, everybody! Cancel your tickets and go back to your couches! Yeah, this is a waste of time, Sue said so.

Right, that'll work, Sue. What a splendid appeal. Waste time much?

I can see how nervous you are. Well, we'll see how much is "nothing", won't we. You are on the wrong side of this thing, as I can tell you are on so many other things. I guess you're used to it. A constant state of delusion.

There's a bureaucracy out there callin' your name, Sue. I suggest you go back to your piddling and diddling and leave this historical and epic national movement to us. You are not equipped for it - and we most definitely are.

Rich, do you have a dog in this hunt? If you have something else rude and insulting to to say email me at heidi at gatheringofeagles dot org. Or better yet, you can say things like that to my face when we meet at the Gathering. You'll find me at the Eagles HQ. Look me up.

I would like some info on the HQ of the GOE. I plan on going to the wall but am a little unsettled that we may not be as organized as our opposition. Is there any set assigned areas for different organizations to "post" at the wall, or is it just a free for all? How about some LOI from HQ just prior to Friday the 16th, letting us know where to assemble or whatever?
